Hospital schedule

Are hospital clinics open as usual during a Chinese public holiday?

Do not assume a holiday clinic matches a normal weekday. Read the notice for your hospital and campus, then recheck the appointment you already hold.

Use the notice from the hospital you are visiting

A Chinese statutory holiday is not an ordinary weekend. Public hospitals often publish a separate holiday plan: which days clinics open, which departments pause, and whether emergency care continues. A notice from one district, hospital, or campus does not apply to another hospital.

For example, Peking University Third Hospital’s 2026 National Day clinic notice (Chinese), published on 17 September 2026, distinguishes open days, closures and adjusted workdays, and requires appointments for non-emergency visits. This is a historical example for that hospital and holiday, not a schedule for other hospitals, campuses or future holidays.

A weekday specialist timetable may not apply on the holiday. If you already have an appointment, ask again before departure whether that date is still a clinic day. For the checks to make, see Why recheck a specialist clinic before you book flights?.

Emergency care does not replace a booked clinic

If regular clinics pause, the emergency department may still be open. It assesses situations that need urgent attention. It does not automatically become the specialist visit you booked, and it does not guarantee the tests or surgery in the original plan.

If you are already in China and have symptoms that need urgent attention, use Which number do you call for a medical emergency in China?. Do not delay emergency care to keep an outpatient appointment.

Leave room in the trip

  • Before buying a non-refundable flight, get the hospital's written plan for that holiday date.
  • Ask whether the check-in point changes, and whether tests, report collection, and payment counters have separate holiday hours.
  • If treatment must fall on the holiday, ask the hospital whether it can move to a day before or after. Do not assume the hospital can fit you in on the day.

SinoCareHub can find the holiday notice for your planned hospital, campus and date, ask whether the clinic and related tests can still be arranged, and pass on the hospital’s reply about your appointment.
