A publicly reported individual case

The Beijing Municipal Health Commission reported this case on 24 September 2026. A 45-year-old teacher from Uzbekistan attended the International Medical Center at the Shunyi Campus of Beijing Friendship Hospital.

The patient was diagnosed with severe Guillain–Barré syndrome and discharged after nearly 80 days of treatment and rehabilitation. This review does not use his outcome to rank the hospital or guarantee treatment results.

From critical care to rehabilitation

According to the original report, the patient developed fever and other symptoms on 11 June and sought care for numbness the following day. Breathing and swallowing difficulties followed, prompting multidisciplinary assessment and transfer to intensive care.

Treatment included respiratory support, immunotherapy and management of complications, with rehabilitation staff also involved. He later came off the ventilator and could eat independently, write and stand at the bedside before discharge.

These milestones describe his course of illness. They are not a standard treatment sequence or an expected recovery timeline for other patients.

Symptoms that need prompt care

Guillain–Barré syndrome is a rare condition in which the immune system attacks the peripheral nerves. Weakness or tingling may start in the legs; severe illness can affect swallowing and breathing.

New or worsening limb weakness needs prompt medical assessment. Seek emergency help immediately for breathing or swallowing difficulties; do not wait for an appointment or a platform consultation.

Fever or numbness alone cannot establish this diagnosis. Doctors determine the necessary tests and treatment.

What to confirm before booking

  • Confirm the campus, specialty, booking channel and available language support. Services provided in one case are not guaranteed for every visit.
  • Prepare existing records, a medication list and identity information. Before submitting them, confirm the receiving channel, file formats and whether translations are needed.
  • For private insurance, confirm coverage, prior authorization, out-of-pocket costs and direct billing eligibility with both the hospital and insurer. Insurance coordination in this case does not mean every policy qualifies for direct billing.

The Beijing municipal government’s medical guide lists the International Medical Center at Beijing Friendship Hospital, including its Shunyi Campus. Use the official guide to find appointment channels, then confirm current arrangements with the hospital.

The patient’s admission to intensive care does not mean that the International Medical Center has a separate emergency service. Routine appointments do not replace emergency care.

Keep your plans separate from this case

Nearly 80 days was this patient’s treatment and rehabilitation period. It is not a basis for estimating costs or planning a trip. The hospital must assess the individual condition to confirm treatment, admission and discharge requirements.
