Entry rules
Can 240-hour visa-free transit be used for a medical visit?
Do not treat 240-hour transit as medical entry permission. The activity examples do not establish whether a planned medical visit qualifies or is excluded. Check your actual itinerary with the responsible authority before booking, and confirm the hospital appointment separately.

What this transit policy allows
The National Immigration Administration's policy interpretation dated 20 August 2026 says that 240-hour visa-free transit applies to nationals of the listed countries who hold an ordinary passport and an onward ticket with a confirmed seat and departure date, and who are transiting through a designated port to a third country or region. That text lists 57 countries and 65 open ports in 24 provinces, autonomous regions, and municipalities. Eligible people may stay in the permitted area for no more than 10 days and engage in tourism, business, visits, family visits, and similar activities. Work, study, and news reporting still require prior approval and the appropriate visa.
The interpretation does not name medical treatment separately and uses an open-ended list of examples. Omission alone does not establish a blanket permission or prohibition. The country list, ports, and permitted areas can change. Before travel, open the current visa-free transit interpretation and do not decide from a country count in an older article.

Who to ask about a planned medical visit
The Exit and Entry Administration Law requires activities to match the purpose of stay or residence. The transit interpretation gives examples of short-term activities, but those examples alone do not establish whether an individual medical itinerary qualifies. A hospital appointment does not replace entry permission or allow travel outside the permitted area.
If the actual purpose is tests, surgery, admission, or rehabilitation, explain the itinerary to the visa office or the National Immigration Administration’s 12367 service before booking. Ask whether visa-free entry applies or a visa is required. If hospital documents are requested, start with China medical visa invitation letter and hospital documents. The hospital decides whether it can issue a document. The receiving authority decides the visa result.
This is not the Hainan 30-day policy
- 240-hour transit requires onward travel to a third country or region. The permitted area, stay limit and activities must match the policy.
- Hainan's 30-day visa-free entry is a separate regional policy. Eligible people may enter Hainan for medical treatment and stay up to 30 days, only inside Hainan. See Can Hainan's 30-day visa-free entry cover a short medical visit?.
- If you already qualify under a bilateral visa exemption or China's unilateral visa-free policy, those rules apply. Still check whether your purpose of entry covers this hospital visit.

Confirm entry permission and the hospital appointment separately
Even with another entry route, the hospital decides whether to accept the visit according to its department, schedule, and international-patient process. For booking steps, see How foreign patients can book a Chinese hospital.
SinoCareHub can organize questions for the hospital from your existing records, proposed itinerary and care needs, and pass on its reply about acceptance and scheduling. Confirm the actual purpose of entry separately with the responsible authority; a hospital appointment is not entry permission.
